The Harpsichord - A Fresh Voice from the Past

On Thursday, November 10, 2011 Dr. Ruth Holmes joined us for an interesting and educational journey that guided us through the history of the harpsichord from its earliest days to its revival in the 20th century.  We discovered how the early harpsichord was developed, how it lost favor to the pianoforte and how a new generation of musicians rediscovered its grace and charm in the 20th century.

Dr. Ruth Holmes has been a part of the music faculty of Lubbock Christian University.  During that time she has served as interim Chair of Communications and Fine Arts, and as President of the Faculty Senate.

She has edited Eighteenth Century keyboard music published by Oxford Press and has contributed book reviews to the America Music Teachers Journal.  Dr. Holmes has also served as the Chair of Musicology and Early Instruments for Music Teachers National Association.

Her interest and passion for early music are captured in her presentation which focuses on the evolution of the harpsichord from its earliest days to its "revival" in the twentieth century.
